"The Storm"

I wanted to relay the contents of a dream I had last night. It may bear some significance or speak to some of you.

1. Dream:

I was in the home of my parents along with other members of my family during a severe thunderstorm. The storm grew in severity as winds, rains and lightning increased in frequency and intensity. Suddenly we were aware of the presence of a large tornado which literally tried to rip our house right out of the ground. We were in the "midst of the storm".

As the tornado shook the house, everyone instantly dove onto the floor and covered themselves with sofa cushions, pillows, blankets, basically anything soft. I ran upstairs to see if my parents were ok and found that they had already taken cover. I ran back downstairs with a mattress in hand, fell to the floor and hid underneath. Just a quickly as the tornado came, it abruptly left, the clouds cleared and the sunshine returned.

As we came out from under our hiding places I noticed that nothing was broken, torn or damaged in any way. The degree to which the house was being shaken should have guaranteed some destruction, but it didn't, much to my surprise. Since the sun was now out and the storm had passed, we decided to go outside to look around. What we saw shocked us.

We could see a path where the tornado had traveled. Every house in it's path was destroyed! Nothing remained. Where houses use to sit, only bare lots and debris remained. Strangely though, our house was in the middle of the path. Homes layed destroyed before and after our house, but our's remained intact. We saw no damage to our property at all.

I was awed by the savagery of the storm and the providence and protection of God. After this I woke up.

2. Interpretation:

A few things really stuck out after the dream.

a. I was in my Father's house.
b. I was with my family.
c. The suddenness of the storm.
d. It's quick passing.
e. The devastation it left behind.
f. God's protection.

I believe the storm and tornado speak of a coming destruction upon the land. I didn't get a sense of natural disasters as much as "natural causes". The "elements" of a storm are brewing and it will strike suddenly, with very little warning. The storm "spawned" the tornado. It wasn't the storm but the tornado that brought the damage. I believe the storm has started but the tornado has yet to appear. However, I was protected in my "Father's house", me and my entire family. I believe this speaks of our heavenly Father and the family of God.

Finally, even though everyone else's home was destroyed, our's remained intact. Even the contents were protected! There was no noticeable damage and the "provision" of God was in the house, namely the pillows, blankets, mattresses, etc.

3. Application:

Psalm 91 comes to mind instantly:

"He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the Lord, He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him will I trust" (vs 1-2)

"He shall cover you with His feathers, And under His wings you shall take refuge,..." (vs 4)

"You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, ... Nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday. A thousand may fall at your side, And ten thousand at your right hand; But it shall not come near you" (vs 5-7)

"Because you have made the Lord, who is my refuge, Even the Most High, your dwelling place, No evil shall befall you, Nor shall any plague come near your dwelling" (vs 9-10)

I believe this is a Psalm 91 revelation.

We are to "dwell" in our Father's house (vs 9) and He will cover us with His feathers (vs 4). As we "dwell" with Him in His house along with our family (fellow saints in the Lord) we will be protected from the coming "storm". We will be able to cover ourselves with His "feathers" (pillows, cushions, etc.)

The storm IS coming and it will bring devastation to all that do not "dwell" with HIM in His secret place. Find the "secret" place of the Most High God before the storm hits. He IS our refuge and fortress!
