The Empty House

I wanted to write concerning a dream I had some months back and the implication it may have. For those of you that understand and move in "prophetic" stuff, this will make more sense. For those of you that are unfamiliar with that term and don't have a clue of what I'm talking about - hang in there as I try to explain.

Many times, God uses things in the natural, or the real world in which we live to make a point or statement about how or why things happen in the supernatural, or spiritual realm. Remember, the Bible says that God is a Spirit (John 4:24). Consequently, His realm, or the realm of the Spirit is more real than the natural world in which we live. God is the center of the universe and all things come from and are under His control and influence. Our job is to get to know Him and understand His ways and how He works. He will at times reveal Himself through natural things to help us understand Him better. Let me give you an example.

The family unit - husband, wife and children are a reflection of God. The Father and Mother of the family are "parts" of the nature of God. Men "mirror" the masculine side, women, the feminine side. Combined and in perfection, both Father and Mother "mirror" His attributes and help the children understand God better. Also, as parents, we understand God's relationship with us through our children. We are His children and He works in and through us, molding and shaping us very much the same way we mold and shape and influence our children. Scripture tells us that creation testifies of God. We can understand Him better through some of the things we see and experience daily. It is from this understanding that I want to explore my dream.

I remember walking through a residential neighborhood with my wife and children in hand, making my way to a new house we were having built. Along the way, a number of neighbors came out to say they were sorry to hear that the house had been destroyed by fire. As we approached the house, I could see that the structure was still intact, but the insides had been completely gutted, as there was nothing left but ashes, barely enough to fill a dustpan! I went to my old house to call my parents and "cry on their shoulder" about what had happened, only to find that they were not at all sympathetic and told me to "get over it" and "grow up". I then spoke to the builder, who said the house would be rebuilt in six (6) months.

Here's what the Lord showed me about the dream:

1) My life was the "house"

2) Everything "inside" me was burned up

3) All of my efforts to date were self-centered and "temporal".

Needless to say, I was quite shocked by this revelation (thinking I was such a wonderful person) and remained literally depressed for days. After sharing this dream with my wife, she quickly confirmed that I wasn't as wonderful as I had always thought. :)

The application I'd like to draw here that may be relevant to some of you is this. God is correcting His children and He corrects those whom He loves (John 15). Before any of us can be used by God, we must first be "proven" by discipline and correction. It is a painful process and one that no one wants to endure, but it must be done. Just as our natural children despise correction, so do we, but as parents, we know that sometimes it is necessary for their own growth and maturity. Our Heavenly Father works much in the same way. Let God have His way with you and "rebuild" you from the inside out. Jesus said it is not the outward things that defile a man, but the inward. Our world is approaching a moral "meltdown", as things that use to be considered immoral or unacceptable are now commonplace. You're considered "weird" at times for having values or calling upon the name of God. However, I strongly believe God will and has already started to shake some of the things that make people secure and all things not based on Him will falter and fail. He will glorify Himself and make known the difference between His people and the world. Let me encourage you to "press on" through whatever difficulties you may have.

Your Father loves you and will finish the work He has started in you, conforming you to the image of His dear Son. After His work is finished, you will be used to reach out to others and to make a difference in their lives. The healing power of God flows from the very wounds that inflict us. In general, people are only interested in things that others have experienced. Our experiences in life, and even our failures help us to better minister to others in similar situations. As people look for answers to problems they are facing, they are turning to various non-traditional sources, trying to find answers. As God prepares us to be more like His Son, we will be able to reach out to those for whom He came and died for.

"And the book of the prophet Isaiah was handed to Him, and He opened the book, and found the place where it was written. 'The Spirit of the Lord is upon Me, because He anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor. He has send Me to proclaim liberty to the captives, and recovery of sight to the blind, to set free those who are downtrodden, to proclaim the favorable year of the Lord' ". (Luke 4:17-19)

God Bless.
